The Penn State football team was able to recover after a disastrous start to the season. Penn State finished the regular season at 6-6, and will make a bowl game with interim head coach Terry Smith . Smith gave an impassioned speech following the Nittany Lions' win over Rutgers Saturday.

Penn State fired former head coach James Franklin this season, after the team lost three consecutive Big Ten games. Smith was chosen as interim , and found a way to win three contests in a row to finish the season.
