An adorable baby orangutan born at Chester Zoo has been pictured as the zoo has revealed both its gender and a meaningful name. Chester Zoo confirmed the birth of the critically endangered Bornean orangutan last month, but had yet to decide on the perfect name.

The latest addition to the orangutan family was born in the early hours of Tuesday, October 7, following mum Leia's eight-and-a-half month pregnancy. Primate experts at the zoo described the birth as "an important step forward" in efforts to safeguard the Bornean orangutan species, adding that both mum and baby were doing well.

In an update today, November 30, pictures of the baby nestled in its mother's arms were posted on Chester Zoo's Facebook page.
