My initial reaction when I heard that Michigan State football had fired Jonathan Smith and is hiring Pat Fitzgerald a s its new football coach: What an absolute home run.

He's just what this team needs.

Fitzgerald is a proven winner (guiding Northwestern to 10 bowl games over 17 seasons), knows how to recruit in the Midwest and understands the Big Ten. He’s hardnosed, defensive minded and develops talent – yep, that sounds like a perfect fit to me.
