I travel 200 kilometres a day to and from work on northern, undivided highways.

I notice that sometime this past spring, the Ministry of Transportation closed approximately 50 per cent of the safest passing areas along my route by changing the lines from broken to solid double. On a stretch of highway that has only three designated passing lanes in 100kms, this is going to cause serious problems.
Until this change was made, I always thought it was illegal to pass on solid double lines and never did so. Then, in a discussion with another motorist who travels my route, I was told it is not illegal to pass on solid double lines in Ontario, so I looked it up in the Highway Traffic Act.
