Six regions across the UK are currently under high alert due to severe flood warnings. The UK government's website has issued a clear message: "Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water." In addition to the six areas where flooding is expected, there are 58 alerts in place for regions where flooding is possible. The high-risk areas include: - Holderness Drain and Leven - Leven Drain in Leven village - Holderness Drain at Wawne Common and Woody Carr - River Derwent at Buttercrambe Mill - River Derwent at Stamford Bridge - The Weir Caravan Park and Kexby Bridge - Walsden Water at Walsden
Residents in these flood-prone areas are advised to take precautions. The Environment Agency recommends moving to higher ground or the upper floors of buildings. They also urge individuals to "turn off the gas, electricity and water in your home if it’s safe to do so." Flooding is also a concern in other regions, including around the River Severn in Gloucestershire, North Somerset, the River Trent in Derbyshire, and the North Sea coast at Bridlington, among many others. For those affected, assistance is available through the Floodline helpline at 0345 988 1188, via text at 0345 602 6340, or through live chat with a Floodline adviser. The Met Office has warned of a wet start to winter, with rain expected across most of the UK on Monday. Heavy rainfall is anticipated, particularly in the west, leading to potential flooding and travel disruptions. Coastal gales are expected across England and Wales, while Northern Ireland and Scotland may see brighter conditions with some sunshine. An amber warning for rain will be in effect throughout Monday, covering much of Wales, with forecasts suggesting that up to 120mm of rain could fall in certain areas, especially over high ground in south Wales. Across the country, between 20mm and 40mm of rain is expected, with hilly regions likely to receive up to 80mm. Additionally, two yellow warnings for rain are in place for the East Midlands, North West England, SW Scotland, Lothian Borders, Yorkshire and Humber, London and South East England, South West England, Wales, and the West Midlands. A third yellow alert for rain is active until 9pm on Monday, covering Central, Tayside & Fife, North East England, North West England, SW Scotland, Lothian Borders, and Strathclyde.
