AKRON, Ohio — When Caden Clapham leaped out from the goal line to pick off a would-be, go-ahead touchdown pass, he made the type of play he has been primed for all season.
Clapham has often found himself lining up on an island against receivers. This time, he pounced on an opportunity created by a teammate to turn the tide in Avon’s 38-7 win Friday night against Walsh Jesuit in the OHSAA Division II football state semifinals. Clapham’s 98-yard interception return for a touchdown at the University of Akron’s InfoCision Stadium not only swung a potential go-ahead score for Walsh into the lead for Avon, it made up for an early turnover of his own.
