Syracuse, N.Y. — Conference championship week is here and the ACC has a five-loss team competing for its league title. It’s not that the five-loss team is actually the second-best team in the conference, but that the ACC has gotten too big.
Mega conferences have created the need for what feels like a million tiebreakers since some teams hardly ever play each other anymore.
Saturday is an important day for the ACC. It likely needs No. 18 Virginia to win to avoid missing out on the College Football Playoff altogether. If the ACC is going to be a two-bid league, then losses by No. 11 Brigham Young and No. 10 Alabama wouldn’t hurt.
However, that wouldn’t guarantee No. 12 Miami a bid if the CFP committee wants to avoid setting a precedent of penalizing teams for making their conference champ
