Many of us indulge in a bit of chocolate over the festive period, with advent calendars and gift boxes aplenty to satisfy our sweet tooth. However, Aldi customers have been issued a "do not eat" warning after it was discovered that one of the budget supermarket's Christmas treats could potentially trigger an allergic reaction in some people.

The German retailer has initiated a recall for its Dairyfine Salted Caramel Filled Gonks as they may contain peanuts, an ingredient not declared on the packaging, posing a "health risk" for those with a peanut allergy.

An allergy alert posted on the Food Standards Agency (FSA) website advises that the recall affects all dates of the 90g bags with the batch code 40
