Miami police are investigating a suspicious package by a tree outside a federal courthouse.

A security officer at the Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. United States Courthouse told NBC6 they called bomb squad to investigate.

More information about the contents of the package were not immediately available.

Authorities asked the public to avoid the area of Northwest 1st Avenue between 3rd and 5th streets. Later, police said they also blocked off North Miami Avenue "out of an abundance of caution."

Also at the courthouse, deliberations are scheduled to continue in rapper Megan Thee Stallion's defamation lawsuit against blogger Milagro Gramz.
