A mum who attributed her bronzed complexion to frequent use of fake tan for nights out was left stunned when she discovered it was actually a symptom of cancer . Debra MacCuaig, a 38 year old teacher, initially brushed off an unusual itch as a reaction to washing detergent or moisturiser.

She noticed that she appeared more tanned than usual but thought this was due to her increased use of fake tan for social events. However, when Debra's eyes started turning yellow, she suspected jaundice - leading to light-hearted comments at work that she looked like a character from The Simpsons.
