PHILADELPHIA — The Penguins are loading up for a big game against the Flyers at Xfinity Mobile Arena on Monday, recalling Rutger McGroarty and Boko Imama from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
The moves were largely expected and address areas of need: scoring and physicality.
McGroarty has been on a heater since making his season debut for the Penguins’ American Hockey League affiliate on Nov. 15, tallying four goals and seven points in five games.
The Penguins need scoring.
And McGroarty, a power forward, has had success in a top-six capacity before. There may be an opening on Sidney Crosby’s left wing, too, although coach Dan Muse moved Kevin Hayes there on Friday in Columbus.
