One of Newcastle’s most prominent bars has been sold for more than £5.5m. The Pitcher & Piano, on the city’s Quayside, was on the market for £5.95m and has been sold for above the guide price.

The sale by Savills to Cable Properties will not affect the operation of the riverside bar , which has proved popular since opening in the 1990s for its riverside views. As well as a popular drinking venue, it has a small restaurant known for its views of the Millennium Bridge and the Baltic and Glasshouse cultural venues.
