SCOTLAND’S national stadium should not be named after a company “profiting from genocide”, campaigners and local politicians have said.
It comes after the Scottish Football Association (SFA) announced that Hampden Park, in Glasgow’s southside, would be renamed “Barclays Hampden” following a sponsorship deal with the bank.
Hampden is the home of Scotland’s national football teams and hosts top fixtures such as the Scottish Cup final.
According to the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Barclays holds “over £2 billion in shares, and provides £6.1bn in loans and underwriting, to nine companies whose weapons, components and military technology are being used by Israel in its attacks on Palestinians”.
