FARGO — North Dakota’s longest-serving senator currently in the state Legislature is running for reelection.
Sen. Tim Mathern, D-Fargo, announced Monday, Dec. 1, that he would seek another term representing District 11 during the 2026 election. He was first elected to the North Dakota Senate in 1986.
“Fargo deserves leadership focused on results, not noise,” Mathern said in a statement. “I’ve worked across the aisle for years to deliver for Fargo and families, and with so many new legislators coming in, experience matters more than ever.”
District 11 covers parts of Fargo between Interstate 29 and the Red River, primarily between Interstate 94 and 13th Avenue South.
Mathern ran unopposed in the 2022 election. If reelected next year, he said he would focus on health care costs, property
