WINDY HILLS, Ky. — Businesses at the Brownsboro Center at Brownsboro Road and Rudy Lane stayed open later Sunday evening while an event organized by the City of Windy Hills was held.

City Council members said they planned the first Shop, Sip and Stroll at the shopping center after they learned they wouldn't be able to continue the tradition of lighting up a Christmas tree nearby for the season.

Councilwoman Julie Theiler said this is because of ongoing construction on Brownsboro Road.

"They had to cut the power because of water lines going in, so no Christmas tree this year," Theiler said.

City officials said they took money spent on powering the Christmas tree to help power their local businesses. At the event, passports were given to people who could gather stamps at each business,
