Keeping your home warm during the cold Kansas months can be a challenge. While portable space heaters can help generate heat, plugging them in to power strips is a fire hazard.

"REMEMBER: DO NOT plug any type of space heater into a power strip," Linn County Emergency Management said in a Facebook post . "These devices are not designed to handle the energy load of a space heater and can overheat causing a fire hazard."
