That's what the College Football Playoff selection committee has traditionally called conference championship games ― the 13th data point ― and whoever came up with it should get a trophy for marketing genius. It's a clever, convenient way to suggest that this weekend's action actually makes the committee's job easier, not harder.
But, of course, that's a lie. As is often the case in marketing, true genius is in deception. And when it comes to the 13th data point, no lipstick ever looked better on a pig.
