The Minnesota Vikings cut veteran receiver Adam Thielen on Monday in order to allow him to sign with a new team for the NFL playoffs.

The Vikings traded for Thielen in August in a move that did not work out for either side.

Thielen has only eight catches for 69 yards on the year and did not play in Sunday’s loss to Seattle. Meanwhile, Minnesota is only 4-8 on the season and out of the playoff mix.

The Vikings shared in a statement that Thielen’s representatives asked Minnesota to waive him.

“Out of respect for Adam, we have agreed to give him the opportunity to pursue more playing time elsewhere,” the Vikings said. “Adam is one of the all-time great Vikings, and we wish him and his family continued success."
