Headed into the 2025 NFL season, hopes were extremely high for the Minnesota Vikings .

One of the major additions of the offseason for Minnesota was pairing its young quarterback J.J. McCarthy with veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen. That pairing did not quite work out as the Vikings had hoped, and an announcement Monday decided the fate of Thielen's future.

Bigger role wanted

According to posts on X from both the official Vikings' account as well as Thielen himself, the 12-year veteran has been released from Minnesota.

Thielen cited wanting a bigger role on a playoff contending team in what will be his last season in an NFL uniform. He will now become a free agent and be able to sign with any team for the remainder of the season.
