Cuts would impact schools in Glendale, Phoenix as well
Peoria Unified will face a 10% budget deficit over next three years due to the failure of its maintenance and operations override in the recent election, which funds people and programs within the district.
Add to that potentially another $5.7 million annually in lost revenue due to declining enrollment, and the district will have its hands full in the coming weeks developing preliminary budget scenarios and reduction options to address the shortfall.
Also, the clock is playing into this scenario.
Superintendent KC Somers said serious cuts will have to be made quickly because the district is legally obligated to adopt a balanced budget by July 2026.
