BEAUMONT, Texas — A Port Arthur man was sentenced to 30 years in prison Monday for his role in the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man in February 2022.
Jakobi Damond Broussard appeared before Judge John Stevens on Dec. 1, 2025, and received the sentence under a plea agreement. Broussard is one of three men charged in the shooting death of Christopher Thomas Jr.
"Do you know what happened here? A human being died. A human being, one of God's creatures," Stevens said before pronouncing the sentence. "You shouldn't have taken it (life) away from another a human being... You have to pay a price."
The judge found that a deadly weapon was used in the commission of the crime. This finding imposes a stricter requirement for parole eligibility, requiring Broussard to serve at least half of hi
