For the annual Broomfield Police toy drive, the department partners with local donors to ensure children in need receive gifts on Christmas, according to a release on the city’s website.
Children who benefit from the drive are nominated by police officers as well as teachers throughout Broomfield schools, the release stated. Community members can donate new, unwrapped toys to benefit the drive. Some of the most requested toys include puzzles, art supplies, books and gift cards. A full list of commonly requested toys is on the city website.
The drive, called the Christmas Crusade by some departments, started in 1983, and the police department started its own tradition in the early 2000s now known as “Santa Cops,” according to an email from department spokesperson Rachel Haslett.
