BARBOUR COUNTY, W.Va. — A Barbour County man was taken into custody Sunday afternoon after a brief standoff in the Moatsville area led officers to uncover multiple improvised explosive devices inside his home, according to the West Virginia State Police.
Troopers from the Philippi Detachment were called around 4 p.m. on Nov. 30 to assist the Barbour County Sheriff’s Department in serving an arrest warrant for 49-year-old Brian Koval on narcotics-related charges. When law enforcement approached the residence, police say Koval attempted to barricade himself inside to avoid arrest.
After a short standoff, officers gained entry and arrested Koval without further incident.
