A ruptured gas line forced the evacuation of several buildings and a parkade in Calgary’s southeast Monday morning.
Emergency crews were called out around 8 a.m. to 19th Avenue SE.
Alex Kwan with the Calgary Fire Department says some workers hit a gas line in the parkade.
“This is a parkade that’s underneath a condo complex. So, it appeared to be one common parkade under four separate buildings,” he explained. “When our crews detected gas levels in there, we activated the fire alarm system to evacuate all the occupants.”
Kwan says about 60 people were evacuated from two of the buildings that were occupied. Two of the other buildings were still under development.
