MOATSVILLE, W.Va. — A Barbour County man is in jail on charges after what police found while attempting to execute a warrant.
State police and Barbour County deputies went to the residence of Brian Koval near Moatsville Sunday at around 4 p.m. They had a warrant for Koval’s arrest on drug charges.
According to state police, Koval, 49, barricaded himself inside his residence to avoid arrest. Police later entered the residence after a brief standoff. They found guns, ammunition, three throwable explosive devices (IED), one suspected bomb and a modified hand grenade.
A state police bomb technician was dispatched to the scene. He safely rendered the explosive devices inoperable, trooper said.
Koval is charged with attempted malicious assault on a police officer and the initial drug charge.
