Steve Cohen ’s vision is starting to come together.
The $8 billion proposal to open a casino and resort complex next to the Mets ’ Citi Field won approval Monday, paving the way for Queens’ Willets Point to continue its growth as an entertainment destination.
For years, the billionaire Cohen, who bought the Mets in 2020, had lobbied for support for Hard Rock at Metropolitan Park — a pitch that also includes a hotel, a concert venue, a public green space and a food hall.
“After years of community engagement and support, Metropolitan Park is one step closer to becoming a reality,” project spokesman Karl Rickett said in a statement Monday after the Gaming Facility Location Board announced its decision.
