Ihave a question for my friends who strongly support President Donald Trump. It concerns the tariffs he has imposed on imports.

He continues to claim that these tariffs are being paid by the exporting companies. That’s simply not true. The tariffs are paid to the U.S. government by the importing company, for example, Walmart.

So, this is clearly a lie. It’s not a matter of opinion; it’s not a bit of spin; it’s not fake news. It’s a lie by definition. Look up the definition of import tariffs. It’s like saying that a triangle has seven sides.

A year or two ago, I talked to several who believed this lie. But since the economy, inflation, and tariffs have been front and center in our political discussion for well over a year, it’s getting very hard to hold onto that lie.
