The Salem County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating after they say a man died by suicide during an interaction with police on Thanksgiving.
The incident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday in a parking lot adjacent to a Wawa and a McDonald’s on Route 130 in Penns Grove, officials said.
“There was an incident on Thursday night where an individual took his own life with a handgun,” Salem County First Assistant Prosecutor Jeffrey Barile wrote in an emailed response to questions from NJ Advance Media.
Police officers from neighboring Carneys Point responded to the Penns Grove location where the shooting occurred as part of their investigation of an incident in Carneys Point, according to Barile.
