GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - The University of Florida’s new head football coach and his family received a warm welcome as they arrived in Gainesville on Monday.
The university announced Tulane’s Jon Sumrall would be the Gators’ head coach after UF Athletic Director Scott Stricklin sacked Billy Napier mid-way through the season.
After meeting some players and other athletic department staff, Sumrall spoke at a press conference Monday afternoon to share his plan for coaching the team.
Former Florida quarterback Shane Matthews expressed support for the university’s hiring of Jon Sumrall as head football coach, saying the new coach’s demeanor differs from what fans are used to in a way that could benefit the program.
