Traffic on the M5 following the crash

A man has died following a collision on the M5 on Sunday night (November 30).

At 11.04pm, the ambulance service alerted police after an 18-year-old patient exited an ambulance that had stopped on the northbound carriageway between junction 21 (Weston-super-Mare) and junction 20 (Clevedon) while being taken to hospital. The patient was then reported to be on the motorway.

An on-duty officer came across the incident and attempted to move the man to safety to protect him and other road users. Tragically, shortly afterwards he was struck by a southbound car and died at the scene despite the efforts of emergency services.

His family have been updated and are being supported by a specially trained liaison officer, Somerset Live reported.
