HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Facing Hunger Foodbank has received a $5,000 Emergency Hunger Relief Grant from Hope Gas to help strengthen efforts to address rising food insecurity across West Virginia.
According to 2024 data, an estimated 15.7% of West Virginia households experienced food insecurity — the second-highest rate in the nation. More than 277,000 residents are affected, including 71,140 children. The state also leads the nation in childhood food insecurity.
Facing Hunger Foodbank CEO Cyndi Kirkhart said the need continues to grow. The organization expects to serve nearly 175,000 people in 2025, distributing about 18 million pounds of food throughout the year.
