The now former auxiliary bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Brownsville has a new job.
Mario Aviles was chosen by the Pope to be the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Corpus Christi, making him the ninth bishop.
The Pope announced his appointment on Monday.
Bishop Aviles was first named the auxiliary bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Brownsville in 2018. He gave a speech in Corpus Christi.
"Thank you from the bottom of my heart for welcoming me with such warmth," Aviles said. "A special word of thanks goes to Bishop Daniel Flores of Brownsville, my bishop for these past years. He welcomed me as a new bishop and counseled me with wisdom and loved me as a true brother. Whatever good I may be able to offer you today is owed under God in very large part to him."
