A fundraising goal set by the operators of Kelowna’s biggest homeless shelter is a long way from reaching its target.
Only about $250,000 of the $400,000 campaign set by the Kelowna Gospel Mission had been collected by Monday afternoon.
“Our outreach team reports increasing numbers of people seeking warmth, food, and support as the cold intensifies,” a release states. “Many are facing the season without family, without safety, and often without hope.”
A special fundraising feature sees every donation that received by Tuesday doubled by kindhearted benefactors ends Tuesday.
The funds go toward hot meals, shelter, outreach services to aid people who are sleeping rough, and the operation of mental health supports, recovery resources, and winter supplies.
