(Gray News) - Travelers in the U.S. without a REAL ID will be charged a $45 fee to pass through checkpoints, TSA announced Monday.
The new fee will go into effect on Feb. 1, according to a press release.
After Feb. 1, anyone without appropriate identification will need to confirm their identity through TSA’s identity verification system, Confirm ID.
Passengers will be able to fill out the form and pay the fee online through pay.gov. before getting to the airport.
Someone who reaches the front of the security line without a Real ID will be pulled out of line and required to fill out the forms in person.
Once approved, the identity verification would be valid for 10 days. After that period, travelers without a REAL ID or passport will need to pay the fee if they choose to travel agai
