India’s interest in moving toward the more advanced Russian S-500 air defence system has grown significantly after the strong performance of the S-400 during the May conflict and Operation Sindoor against Pakistan. The S-400 played a decisive role in stopping Pakistani aircraft and missiles, exposing gaps in Pakistan’s offensive capabilities and giving India a major strategic advantage.
As the security environment becomes more complex, with newer and faster threats emerging from both Pakistan and China, India is now evaluating whether the S-500 can offer the next layer of protection. The S-500 is considered one of the most advanced air defence systems in the world, and Indian planners believe it could strengthen national security for many years.
