The Met Office has responded to reports of a "snow bomb" set to hit the UK, with some weather models forecasting widespread wintry conditions.
While the forecaster says parts of England and Scotland could see snowfall this week, the UK is unlikely to see widespread wintry weather.
Met Office maps show a mix of wintry showers , rain and hail across the UK on Friday evening (December 5), with southwest England, Wales and Northern Ireland forecast rain, some of it heavy.
Eastern parts of the UK could see hail, while northern parts of England and southern parts of Scotland could see snow.
Met Office spokesperson Stephen Dixon told the M.E.N : "It's an unsettled theme for the weather this week, with a mixture of wind, rain and some sunny spells too.
