They are 7-15 and in sole possession of 12th place in a Western Conference that is actually facing a down year relative to recent seasons. They are 23rd in net-rating according to Cleaning the Glass, and they are 23 in pure point differential, being outscored on the season by a total of 109 points. There is nothing fluky about their start — the numbers don’t scream that this is a sleeping giant, nor do their continued health problems inspire confidence that a sudden playoff push is on the horizon. If you’ve decided to check-out on Mavericks basketball this season, you’re more than justified with putting your viewing attention elsewhere.
