Haida master carver 7IDANsuu James Hart’s four-plus decades of work is now the focus of a stunning book .

Filled with hundreds of images of monumental works and associated smaller carvings and bronzes, the book, titled 7IDANsuu James Hart: A Monumental Practice, by Hart and Curtis Collins, is the first publication devoted to the artist.

It also features a series of fascinating essays devoted to Hart’s practice, history and place in the Northwest Coast art world. The book opens with an essay by renowned ethnographer Wade Davis that connects Hart’s work with the Haida people’s long history. Drawing on many interviews with Hart, Collins, the director and chief curator at the Audain Art Museum in Whistler, digs deep into Hart’s practice.
