CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — Chesterfield County leaders are moving into the final phases of a proposal to enact a countywide juvenile curfew, an effort supporters say could help reduce crime and keep young people safe.

The curfew would apply to anyone under 18 and would run from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., seven days a week, across Chesterfield County and in every municipality, including Cheraw, Chesterfield, Pageland, McBee, Jefferson, Ruby, Patrick, and Mount Croghan.

The push comes after a series of youth-related incidents, including the deadly shooting at this year’s Pageland Watermelon Festival , where a 17-year-old was shot and killed. A memorial honoring the teen remains at the intersection where the shooting happened, a daily reminder for families calling for change.
