KINDER, La. (KPLC) - The Allen Parish Genealogical and Historical Society is celebrating 40 years since it was founded in 1985.
The non-profit group was chartered by the State of Louisiana in 1990. The group aims to preserve the history of Allen Parish and its settlers.
Over the years, the society has collected and preserved data through genealogy databases like Ancestry and MyHeritage.
Laura Hall, a representative from the office of House Speaker Mike Johnson, visited the group today to recognize their 40 years of service.
“Even though genealogical and historical societies are not as widely known as we would like for them to be, they’re so important for the preservation of history, and history that’s happening right now that’s going to be history in the future,” Hall said.
