MOORHEAD — A group from Moorhead recently took a trip overseas to form a friendship with leaders in Kurdistan.

They spent just under two weeks in northern Iraq as part of a friendship proclamation.

The group not only got to immerse themselves in Kurdish culture, but they also got to connect with people there about the culture of Moorhead.

Two people who went say the highlight of the trip was getting to meet Kurdish icon and former Kurdish president Mosoud Barzani.

"He's not just fought for their independence and for their right to not just survive but live and be as a group of people, but how he's continued his mission to just unite people" Bjørn Solberg, who went on the trip to Kurdistan, said.

Solberg says about 10% of the Moorhead population is Kurdish.
