WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) – Wichita police released its latest crime statistic report on Tuesday, showing an increase in murder and rape cases. The department, however, says Wichita is “experiencing significant declines and meaningful progress in public safety efforts.”

The statistics, which WPD notes are not official, show that robbery cases are down significantly at 16%, while aggravated assault also showed a decline of 6%.

Murder and rape cases, however, are up. The department’s stats show 33 murder cases to date this year, while there were 32 murders reported in 2024. Rape cases are at 280 this year, up ten from last year’s 270.

Police say that while murder cases are up, gun-related homicides are down. The department did not provide gun-related homicides in the statistics.
