FARGO — The nonprofit Golden Drive Homeless Kids had a goal to collect 40,000 pairs of socks during its annual fall sock drive.
Golden Drive's founder, Susan Baron, says roughly 95% of those donations have already gone out to schools and shelters.
Baron says the exact total of socks donated and the winner of their sock drive competition will be announced at their next event on Dec. 19. That is also when they will hand out Christmas gifts to kids in need.
She says the greatest need in the community right now is winter gear like coats, boots and mittens.
"I've had a couple schools reach out, asking, asking if we could help them with items. And winter gear is definitely on that list." Susan Baron, founder, Golden Drive Homeless Kids.
Golden Drive's Fill the Fire Boot event will be 2 to 5
