Monterey Park’s City Council on Wednesday, Dec. 3, will consider approval of a proposal to build a new data center, sparking criticism from community members who say they felt uninformed about the proposed development.
The construction of the data center is meant to bolster the local economy and housing market by attracting potential businesses to the area, according to a city council staff report on the project.
“The General Plan states that the ‘Saturn Park district provides prime properties, easy access to arterial roadways and freeways, and locations near housing perfect for new, clean technology, and creative industries,” according to a draft initial study, citing the proposed project site as well-designated for tech and innovation businesses.
