COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio lawmakers say they’re not done working on property taxes, and a new bipartisan plan shows what might come next.

The bill, which doesn’t have a number yet, is sponsored by Ashtabula County Republican Rep. Dave Thomas and Democratic Rep. Chris Glassburn of North Olmsted, who say the goal is to make Ohio’s property-tax system easier for people to navigate.

It would require every county to offer payment plans, guarantee at least 30 days between when a tax bill is mailed and when it’s due, and require mailed notices when a property’s value changes.

It would also permit levy campaigns to use plain “if this… then that…” statements on ballots. A change the sponsors say would help voters understand a levy’s potential impacts.
