A man who was critically injured after crashing his car into a Patchogue business at high speed has died from his injuries.
Scott Letizia, 42, died at NYU Langone Hospital–Suffolk in Patchogue, Suffolk County Police announced Tuesday evening, Dec. 2.
It came just a day after Letizia’s speeding Honda Accord blew through the intersection of North Ocean Avenue and Main Street and slammed into a commercial building around 5:40 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, Suffolk County Police said.
No other vehicles were involved and nobody else was injured.
Photos shared by LI Fire Buff showed the vehicle ripped apart, with the roof torn off and the front end crushed beyond recognition. The storefront suffered heavy damage, and debris was scattered across the sidewalk.
Letizia was transported to NYU Langone Hospital–Suffolk in Patchogue, where he was initially listed in critical condition, police said. His Honda was impounded for a safety inspection.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash and ask anyone with information to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
