DULUTH — The future of the former Lester Park Golf Course property soon may rest largely in the hands of the Duluth Economic Development Authority.

At a special meeting called Tuesday, DEDA commissioners voted 7-0 in favor of a resolution authorizing approval of a proposed development agreement with the city of Duluth to acquire control of a majority of the former golf course site.

At present, Duluth owns about 230 acres of the former municipal golf course. City councilors will be asked Monday, Dec. 8, to sign off on a development agreement with DEDA, with several contingencies, including:

Completion of a land-use study, conducted with public input.

Rezoning former park land, as recommended.

The protection of at least 1,500 acres of additional undeveloped land amassed for public use.
