Earlier this year, Martin W. Matson's stash of more than 100,000 child pornography photos was uncovered.
And on Monday, Dec. 1, the former West Deptford volunteer fire chief was sentenced to seven years in prison, NJ Advance Media reports. But before the 71-year-old learned his fate, he shared a little bit about his alleged problem with the judge, the outlet said.
Matson apparently told Superior Court Judge William Ziegler that his addiction was not to child pornography, but "just regular pornography," NJ Advance Media says. Matson told the judge that he came across pornography on the computer about 30 years ago but "never took any pictures of anyone... sold any pictures... traded any pictures... touched a child, molested anyone."
Matson pleaded guilty in June to second-degree endangering the welfare of a child by possessing at least 1,000 but less than 100,000 or more items depicting the sexual exploitation or abuse of a child.
The judge reportedly denied his plea to serve time from home and will be subject to Megan’s Law provisions and parole supervision for life, NJ.com says.
