COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Starting in January, a new Colorado law regarding the sales of furnaces will drive costs up for those looking to replace theirs.
The law passed in 2023 and it prohibits the sale of certain types of furnaces and water heaters, instead requiring sellers to sell appliances that are in compliance with low nitrogen oxide output requirements.
WireNut Home Services said this will drive costs up for those looking to replace their furnace.
“We have heard there’s an anticipation of anywhere between 20 to 30%,” WireNut’s Gavin Urban said. “Meaning if we put that into dollars, it could mean up to thousands of dollars more.”
This means, for example, if you were quoted $5,500 for a furnace replacement this year, that newer model next year would likely cost between $6
