A light overnight snowfall proved more troublesome for cities than expected, with Murphysboro Mayor Will Stephens saying the type of event that hit the region Tuesday morning is often harder for municipal crews to manage than a larger storm.

Stephens said shallow, uneven snowfall produces conditions that don’t always lend themselves to plowing.
